Youth Program Coordinator - Ngai Te RangiThe transfer of traditional and cultural knowledge will form the basis for encouraging good nutrition and regular physical exercise due to the hunting, cultivating and harvesting from the Moana (Sea) and Whenua (land). Instilling the importance of kaitiakitanga (guardianship) will be a key feature of this role to develop and facilitate activities that support continuing education opportunities. The Youth Programme Coordinator will be responsible for shared leadership, operational oversight, and strategic partnerships for TRONIT’s youth department and programs, that primarily serves youth ages 11-15. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a team that is dedicated to building resilience and strengthening youth by delivering programmes that use Maori philosophy, values, knowledge and practices to increase their understanding of their Maori identity and builds upon their cultural, social and life skill development. You will need to be comfortable working with other community partners to build/bridge connections that will support professional project management of the programmes key deliverables. The successful candidate will be motivated, energetic, and an organised individual capable of developing and implementing innovative strategies to grow and enhance the programme. Key Responsibilities and Attributes (other duties may be assigned): • The ability to demonstrate Maori and non-Maori models of practice e.g. Te Whare Tapa Wha, Te Awhiwhio and Ecological System Models. • Have knowledge of Vulnerable Children Act 2014 and Children Young Persons and their Families Act 1989 • Design youth focused programmes to meet the goals and objectives of the programmes deliverables. • Directs and supervises program activities to meet the programmes objectives • Develops and maintains positive relationships with program participants and their whanau. • Implements continuous program improvement processes. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programmes. Establishes new program activities as required to meet the needs of the program participants as they align with the aspirations of the programmes goals. • Assists in the marketing and distribution of programme information. • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organisations/stakeholders and schools. • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives. • Is a team player (can work alongside different disciplines) with the ability to work independently • Excellent communication and people skills • Experience with and/or understanding of the application of technology and social media tools and proficiency with Microsoft Office. Physical Demands: The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. 1. While performing the duties of the position, the employee may occasionally be required to swim in the open water 2. While performing the duties of the position, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, and walk some distances and meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public, staff and participants. 3. The employee will be responsible for the safety or well-being of participants 4. Outdoor recreational activities may require lifting of some equipment such as kayaks or be able to erect critical equipment such as marquees for ‘off-site locations’. You will need to be able to demonstrate or have proven experience working with Rangatahi across a broad range of disciplines. A comprehensive First Aid Certificate and/or Water Safety/Lifeguard Certificate are desirable but not essential, as training will be provided for this.
